A Career in International Justice, Development and Rule of Law Capacity Building: Pathways and Insights – 'Can we make a difference?'

This event brings together leading practitioners in international justice, rule of law reform and development to explore the wide range of career opportunities in this demanding but rewarding field. Against the backdrop of diminishing resources and increasing global need, an expert panel will share first-hand experience of designing, delivering and evaluating justice and rule of law programmes around the world.

The panel will explain the fundamental principles, terminology and practical challenges of international Rule of Law capacity building projects, including needs-analysis, in-country engagement, sustainability, cultural sensitivity and measuring success. Speakers will also provide examples of projects, explain the factors that shaped outcomes and reflect on their own professional and personal journeys.

The event is aimed at students and practitioners interested in full-time, secondment, pro bono and/or “low bono” roles in international development, human rights and rule of law. It will offer practical guidance on qualifications, skills, languages, funding realities, where to find opportunities and how to build a pathway into this field.

This in-person event will offer an honest and practical exploration of what it takes to build justice systems internationally – what works, what doesn’t, and how to be part of it.
